Experience for Yourself the dangerousness of an avalanche: Make a snow cave. At the surface only loose snow, but more and more hard snow in the depth.

Some weeks earlier on the 12th March near a footpath in the mountain Untersbeg.

Already in about 70 cms deep the snow was so steady that the grave tools, a plastic container for ice failed.

The next experiment: make a horizontal cave by stomping with the feet. Easy at 30 cms under the surface. Impossible at 70 cms deep.
