This book covers the story of this famouse christmas carol including new
documents about the origin discovered 1995
JOSEPH MOHR, the creator of 'SILENT NIGHT, HOLY NIGHT' was born on the 11th December 1792,
at Steingasse Nr. 9 in Salzburg.
The young priest wrote the text of the song in 1816 in Mariapfarr and 2 years later in Oberndorf,
the musical arrangement by F.X. Gruber was performed for the first time.

Also to be found here is the facsimile (200 ATS) of the original manuscript of
'SILENT NIGHT; HOLY NIGHT'. It is the only one to be written by the hand of
Joseph Mohr and bears the date 1816.
When this manuscript was discovered in 1995 it provided the key to a wholly
new interpretation of the creation of the song, and it is here,
at Steingasse Nr. 9 that this story began. |
